How do you switch from electric to gas hot water?
We recently replaced a Parramatta customer’s old Rheem electric water heater with a new instantaneous gas hot water system.
As the children in the house became teenagers, they started taking longer showers and the demands on their old water heater grew. While the customer could upgrade to a larger electric water heater with a bigger storage capacity, an instantaneous gas system would mean they never run out of hot water.
Once onsite, we found an old Rheem electric water heater that had provided the customer with trouble-free hot water for many, many years. They had certainly got their money’s worth from this hard working appliance!
We discussed hot water system replacement options with the customer and they chose to remove the old electric tank and replace it with a new instant gas hot water system. One of the main benefits of instantaneous gas water heaters is you never run out of hot water because it’s heated by an element as it’s used.
The customers had been happy with the old Rheem electric water heater so opted for a new Rheem Metro gas continuous flow hot water system (model: 876T26).
Switching from electric to gas hot water.
The process began with safely draining and disconnecting the old electric water heater, which we responsibly removed for recycling.
Next, we consulted with the customer to determine the ideal location for their new gas hot water system. Since instant gas water heaters don’t require a bulky storage tank, we installed it discreetly on a wall close to the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom. This strategic placement reduces the time it takes for hot water to reach the taps, minimising both water waste and waiting times.
As fully licensed plumbers and gas fitters, we handle every aspect of the gas hot water system installation ourselves. By eliminating the need to engage additional tradespeople, we streamline the process, saving our customers time and money. Once the unit’s location was finalised, we connected the cold water inlet and hot water outlet pipes.
To ensure everything was functioning perfectly, we performed a comprehensive set of tests. This included checking water pressure, confirming there were no gas leaks, and fine-tuning the temperature settings to meet Australian standards and the manufacturer’s recommendations. Once the system was ignited and operational, we made the final adjustments to optimise performance.
Finally, we cleaned up thoroughly, disposing of all waste and leaving the site neat and tidy. The customer was then ready to enjoy consistent, reliable hot water for many years to come—no more running out mid-shower!
