Reliable repair and installation of all solar water heating systems.
We were recently called out to a home in Blacktown after the owner noticed their hot water was running out far sooner than usual. Their rooftop solar system had performed flawlessly for many years, so the sudden change raised immediate concern. We arranged a convenient appointment during their break from work so they could return home and let us inspect the system.
During our assessment, the issue became clear. The rooftop solar tank had started to leak due to internal corrosion. Water was seeping from the cylinder and making its way across the roof before draining into the gutters. With the tank steadily losing water, it could no longer reach or maintain its full capacity. As a result, the home’s hot water supply was depleted much more quickly, even though the solar collectors were still capturing heat as normal.
If you notice a leak or rapid loss of hot water, call our 24/7 emergency team on 0410 693 532.

New solar hot water system installation
It was clear that the existing system had reached a point where repair was no longer viable. The internal corrosion had significantly weakened the cylinder, leading to reduced performance and ongoing water loss.
When corrosion occurs inside a rooftop tank, it cannot be reversed. Insulation deteriorates, leaks become more frequent, and the risk of sudden tank failure increases. While temporary fixes may slow the problem, they cannot stop the internal breakdown of the tank. In cases like this, replacing the entire system is the safest and most cost-effective long-term solution.
After reviewing the available systems, the homeowners selected a Rheem Hiline 300L stainless steel rooftop solar hot water system (Model 52L300). Using our specialised rooftop handling equipment, we removed the old tank and installed the new one in the same position, alongside their existing solar PV panels. The upgraded system now provides efficient and reliable hot water, powered primarily by the sun.

Enhancing efficieny with rooftop solar panels
Solar hot water systems offer excellent long-term energy savings, and modern designs provide greater efficiency, improved insulation and stronger solar absorption. With long warranties and durable construction, these systems are built to deliver consistent performance and lower running costs.
By connecting the new system to the home’s solar PV panels, the electric booster can operate using solar-generated electricity rather than grid power. This reduces household energy bills, improves system efficiency and decreases environmental impact. With the new Rheem Hiline installed, this Blacktown household can expect reliable hot water year-round and noticeable reductions in electricity use.
The electric booster only activates when solar energy alone cannot heat the water sufficiently, for example during winter or long stretches of cloudy weather. When powered by solar PV instead of the grid, these periods of boosted heating are far more cost-effective. Gas boost options are also available for homeowners who prefer them.
